Softball should have it's own category.
There are thousands of softball players all over America. Hundreds of different leagues compete every spring and summer in this sport. This sport has a huge following.
Where else, besides bowling, can somebody have a bear gut and still compete in a sport and be a champion?
The influence of softball in my area is so strong that the minor league baseball team (Potomac Nationals) has serious opposition from a softball league. The local softball teams do not want the P-Nats to build a new stadium on the land that now occupies a softball field. The softball players do not want to lose their field even for one season and the local politicians are listening. That's serious juice!
And I have stood in the batter's box and have had a woman fast pitch to me...the ball is a blur and was just as tough to hit as a baseball. Don't let the size of the ball fool you.

I'm not really offended. I mean I play fastpitch but it would really be pointless to add a completely different category when the sports are, for the most part, the same. If you really care that much I guess you could try to get it changed to Baseball/Softball. But I mean it's kinda dumb when you can just ask questions about softball on here.

Sure softball is a sport. It has all the requirements...players, a ball, a way to score, running is involved. The problem is that not enough people care or have valid questions to ask. But hey, what would it hurt to add a category?

I love softball! Super fun to play and in most of the leagues I used to play in, I could smoke while playing. Hell, there was one time when 7 of the 10 players (yes, 10. the roamer position) on my team were all smoking while playing the field. that really pissed the other team off.
And sorry, nobody pitches a softball at 90mph. 70mph yes, but 90mph no.........that's just the speed they say it would be equivalent to if they were playing baseball.

I'm offended by the fact that the sport in question hasn't changed its name by now.
Really, the balls are bigger than baseballs and probably every bit as hard (especially when thrown at 90mph).
Somebody should get to work on renaming the sport to better showcase what it's really about.

A bit, considering cricket is listed as a category.
Apparently Yahoo decided to make it internationally based not North American based. So therefore while softball is very popular in the USA and Canada, and has popularity in Austrailia, it is almost non-eistant in Europe and the middle-east. And while I doubt there even 1,000 native born USA resident who understand cricket, it is hugely popular in Great Britain, India, Southern Africa, Central Asia, and the South Pacific. Therfore they put it in.

Softaball can't be pitched in the 90 mph range... Well, I guys it might but it hasn't. 65-70 mph is considered heat in softball and look how close they are. Try to hit a 97 mph fastball. Oh, wait, you can't hit what you can't see.

no, i am not offended. softball is barely broadcasted. not many people understand that it is a different sport than baseball. and not many people care. i myself don't really mind softball. in fact when i'm older that's probably all i'll play to stay active.
