Kitty litter won't melt any thing Just makes good traction .Keep it in your car trunk , that will give you some needed weight in back & if your spinning you wheeles spread some in front & behind your tires for traction .
Salt will only work if the tempiture is high enough . There is a product I've seen , looks like little white balls , very small . It will melt snow & ice when temp is very low .

Kitty litter does not melt ice, it only gives you traction on the ice. If the rock salt is not working, go get some of those synthetic deicers. They do work. I use them around the house all the time and they don't hurt my dogs feet and don't chew up the cement.

The good thing about kitty litter (the clay kind) for traction is that you can get it at any supermarket, so if the snow was a surprise on your trip, just get a jug of it and you are set. Also, note that the clay will vanish in the spring, while the salt will do the soil no good at all.

Kitty litter doesn't melt anything.
100% clay kitty litter can be used for traction though, if you car gets stuck or something. Be careful! 99% of kitty litter at the store is NOT clay. It will make wet ground more slippery, not less. Only 100% clay litter will give you traction.

Kitty litter does NOT melt ice. Try breaking it up into smaller pieces with a shovel or something.
