My toddler has had some unusual brusing on his legs they are small and light and I can't figure out where they are coming from. When I mention it to my family all they say is because he is really rough! And thats true he is, and just within the last three weeks my son has had 2 small nose bleeds, they aren't like runny but when I wiped his nose it was a little bloody. So I don't know if its nothing or if I should worry? I've told the doctor when i first started noticing the bruises but she said that along w the bruises to watch for unusal bumps and bleeding gums. I worry because when he was 6 months to 1 year he had been using protopic for his ecsema. And then they found out that protopic was causing cancer to some people that were using it. Thats a major reason I'm worrying. Does anyone have any thoughts to why I should or shouldn't be worried?

I don't condone going to the doctors for little things at all - I'm sure your son is absolutely fine.

That said you sound very worried, and if it's the only thing that will set your mind at rest perhaps it would be better for you to get a second opinion - or go and see your first doctor again and ask for more of an explanation. Knowing WHY is often something which alleviates irrational fears and worries... and that protopic does sound worrying, maybe it's worth another check.

Nosebleeds are normal in winter with dry air from the heat being on. A toddler without leg bruises would be an overprotected toddler. The protopic is stopped so shouldn't be an issue.
When to worry- lots of bruises, or bruises not on shins and usual places kids bump. Severe nosebleeds- both nostrils. Activity level changes- listless and disinterested.

Bruising is caused by the rupture of capillaries and tiniy amounts of blood leading out. So, it is a kind of bleeding and the fact your son bruises apparently very easily is probably related to the nosebleeds.

If I were you I would take him to the dr and get a blood workup. I'm not saying you should worry, but anything that might indicate some underlying condition should be investigated. Try not to fret, it is probably nothing serious, but I wouldn't just ignore it. You don't say how old the boy is but since you refer to him as a toddler I am assuming not more than 3 - it isn't usual for kids that age to be covered in bruises, that generally comes a bit later.

I don't know but it sounds to me like he is normal. Kids always have small bruses, especially on the shin and knees, from rough housing. And, as far as the blood in the nose, that doesn't sound bad either. Just sinus's dry from the winter. I have not heard of the protopic though.

Take him to the dr and get a CBC test and ask if coagulation tests may be in order. Better safe than sorry!
CBC - complete blood count checks on white cells and red cells and platelets - important for coagulation.
Bruising and nosebleeds are not normal and should be investigated. Do it soon for your peace of mind.

Good luck and I hope he's OK!!!

No worries, they are just trying new combination's of foods to see what they like. It comes with the whole "little scientist" phase. My son likes to mix whatever is on his plate, and see what tastes best. So far, he loves rice with everything (including fruit), he hates rice cakes unless it's with apples and cinnamon, and he loves bananas instead of jelly on his peanut butter sandwiches. Not too crazy, but as long as he is getting everything he needs and doesn't eat it too often I'd let him go at it. :D

Perhaps now is a good time to get a second opinion from a different doctor. I don't know what might be causing his symptoms, but it's a good idea to find out.

I hope everything works out and your child is healthy and safe. God bless you.

I have 2 boys and boys get bruises all of the time when they are rough. My kids are fearless and always end up getting hurt. I think your son is fine. Just being a boy. Please don't worry :)
