Depends on what needs to be done. If you need a timing belt, driving your car would be a bad thing. If that belt breaks, you would need a new motor.
If its plug, wires, oil, fluids, air cleaner.....your fine driving. Most major tune ups include changing the timing belt. Call your mechanic and ask what needs to be done.....if he says timing belt, then try not to drive your car.

if you can't afford the other work at this time it won't really hurt you or your car. However you need to ask your self if you really trust the mechanic and the shop they work for. Because there are a lot of places that just want more money from you, and tune-ups are easy money for shops. I'm not saying you shouldn't have it done. If your car needs it than by all means you should have it done. It won't hurt you car to go a week with out the other work unless it is running poorly(running rough, check engine light is on, or it is consuming a lot of gas). If you have any other car Questions feel free to e-mail me.

He's probably trying to get more money from you.If your car is running OK your fine. You should be able to do the tune-up when your better able to afford it if your not having any symptoms of rough running or a check engine light on.

if you really do need a tune up you should be fine till payday
but make sure you get it or your engine will continue to wear
down.to start, if you have 20 bucks go to walmart and get a
oil change and lube job done for now.

He's trying to scare you into buying more service from him. It's one of the oldest ploys in the book. Wait until you can afford it, and get a second opinion before investing any big bucks.

watch when they say you need a tune up. some times they try to up sell. but if it's been 40,000 to 50,000 miles since your last tune up you might need one. the effects of needing one and not getting one is bad fuel economy.
