Because somehow it got a lot of undeserved hype. Since people are so mindless and stupid, they listen to anyone. Since they listen to anyone, when people tell them, "You have to watch THIS SHOW!" they're going to watch it, no matter how much of a piece of **** it is.

I can't say why other people like it, and you have already panned it, but I will waste my answer anyway. Bad acting? Perhaps to some people. Bad writing? If you don't understand the dialog because of lack of schooling, don't feel bad. There are alot of stupid people out there today since the school system went in the toilet.
I personally like the idea that a handicapped doctor can flout the rules, call in many resources from people that respect him, (In the show. The "bad acting".) and come up with a diagnosis that makes sense. Sometimes for the good, sometimes a waste of time. It makes it real. Doctors today, handicapped or not, make mistakes.
I guess I feel kinship with the good Doctor since I have a similar job, but I fix buildings as a maintenance man. Not people. I have had to do some strange things, call on other people for info, buck the system since I had a "gut check" on certain items, etc.
I also happen to have a left leg with a steel plate, a pin through the ankle, and five screws holding me together there. Another reason I feel comfortable with a handicapped Doctor. I for one appreciate the effort that goes into the show. Perhaps since I have the education to realize what is actually going on. "Soap Opera", perhaps. Melodrama, no, no, and again no.
Enjoy your "mythbusters". I have no idea what the show is, or even where it can be found. I prefer shows that teach, even in a not so popular way.

What people see in the show varies but I will try and educate you on what is there.
The first thing that is there is the double life story. The idea that thes characters must all balance their lives as doctors with their personal lives, and quite often that leads them to share both lives with the same person(s). It is not easy to go out and find someone to date when you are spending long shifts at the hospital. It is also not easy to be taken serious in one's career when one makes the mistake of having a personal relationship with one's boss.
Second, there is the maturity taking place in all of the interns as they move from being somebody's son or daughter to being somebody's surgeon, holding the pateints' very lifes in their hand, playing God if you will. They must learn how to shut off that human part of them that cares for people long enough to care for people as doctors.
Third, for those who have studied philosophy, there is the concept that history repeats itself and while you may miss the lesson the first time, you may pick it up the next time when it is exagerated a bit. Aristotle was the one who said you can pass by a word big as life on the side of a building everyday and never notice it but then you see it up close once and recognize what you did not see before. Grey's Anatomy's writer do this a lot in their stories.
And fourth, there are always questions of ethics to be dealt with when discussing life and death situations. this show is filled with such situations.
Call it a soap opera if you like but it is a good soap opera.
And as for Mythbusters, whose myths are these because I never heard of most of them?

In my opinion people are fascinated with Grey's anatomy and it's so popular because it's about relationships in a professional scenario. Different people with different reactions to life, friendship, and love. In my house we watch it every single week. We exercises early, have dinner and do every thing early that day, just to be on time for the show. My husband watches it for the beautiful doctors I watch it for the gorgeous doctors and also for the Drama. We LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

The target market is women around the age of 40, and older. The women who LOVE soap operas. That is why lifetime is so popular for these women. All soap operas, also.
Why do they like soap operas, I do not know.

Unless you've seen the show from the beginning....you won't get it. You missed the whole character building part of the show. Don't knock it...until you've watched from the very beginning.

It involves technically hot men and hospital drama with the occasional sex scene and violence. It's what everyone but smart people wants.
