I'm not that sure because I got a PhD in mathematics, and they don't teach you stuff like that. But my 3-year-old relative says that the answer is 2. I guess I could have used a mixture of calculus and trig to find that out, but she was positive. I wonder why my professors didn't teach me that?

I can prove to you it equals three, but that isn't what you asked. You just wanted to know what 1 + 1 is, so my answer is 3.
