My computer is running so slow. I've read some of the other questions like mine and I still had some questions. BountyJack recommended to someone to go to start then run and type msconfig then start up tab and disable some things that you don't use. Koday easyshare was one of mine. So when I disable it when I start my computer does that mean it will no longer be on there? I also have all my pictures on my computer like over 2,000 will this make it run slower. I've done a disk clean up and a defragment that might not be the correct term but something like that. When I turn my computer off and then start it up it takes soooo long for it to complete. Thank you so much for all your help.

2000 pictures? Download them to disk or get an external drive (which you can get for $40). You don't want to lose them. Plus you can't even think about messing with things or trying a cleanup until you do this.

Sure, you could have a virus, adware, spyware, junk from old programs. Sure you could try the myriad of programs to fix it or try the deleting startup issues as you said.

But all in all you probably do not have the knowledge, time or money to try all of this and even if you do it might not do anything. So here's what you do. Pull anything off of the computer that you want...... photos, documents, etc.

Then do a system restore either with the disks that came with your computer or the built in one that you access by hitting an "f" key at startup. It will completely return your computer to like the day you got it. It will be as clean as clean can be and resolves all issues.

No matter what program you may disable, it will still be there. However, it will just not "start" up and load when you boot your computer - which means you computer will have more resources to run faster. But - that depends on the size of the program you have disabled.

Depending upon the size of those 2000 pictures, they would use a lot of space on your hard drive. I would suggest you burn them to a CD-Rewrite then erase them from your computer.

Another factor as to slow computer performance can be attributed to "spyware" or "malware." In that respect, I suggest you run a scan. If you do not have any programs for this, there are a number of "free" programs available for download. Ad-Aware SE is one of the more popular software programs many use.

But in restrospect, it sounds more like your computer maybe bogged down with programs that are running in the background. Thus, I would check your start menu. Just besure to not shut off any programs related to Windows or Anti-Virus or Fire Walls.

Hope this helps.

A full hard drive won't cause your computer to crash, but you should definitely back them up and move as many files as you can off of your hard-drive. If it's just your start-up that's slow, through msconfig, go to the start-up tab and un-check everything you don't need.

Hi. Nobody mentioned malware so I will. Download and run some free spyware and adware programs. Search for " Spybot ", " AdAware SE " for example. Delete anything they find.

When you modify using "msconfig" it just stops the program from running every time you boot. The programs are still there but you only run them when you need them. Good luck.

When you go into MSconfig and disable it you are stopping it from starting the next time the computer starts. You can go back to Msconfig and enable it anytime you like. The program is still there. It does not remove the program. It only stops the computer from starting it.

You may have virus's and spyware on your computer. I recommend running the following as needed.

Hey little sport,
Let me make a complex issue somewhat easier--- you could play tag all week long in msconfig and not help yourself one single dot. nothing in comparison to what you're needing here --- Go to one of the two links that I have left for you here and tap into the search box at the site Startup Optimizer !! It is a free and powerful program that will put your startup menu into YOUR control--- it will list out absolutely everything that has logged itself onto your startup list---- even give you a tag on each one to let you know if they are essential to your system or not--- and give you an -----allow or disallow option on each of them !!!---- It is a marvelous program and one that will have you cruising through startups in no time !!!!

And, by-the - way------programs like Kodak Easy Share and a whole lot of others are simply startup HOGS that want to be on your startup menu to make them the "up front guys" on your system---and --- a lot of these programs log THEMSELVES onto your startup menu when you install them for that one purpose !!
Startup Optimizer will put an end to THIS practice as well--- because when you are installing a program that tries to log itself onto your startup menu---- the optimizer will thru up a panel and tell you that that is what is happening and ask you ---do you want to allow or disallow this ???----any of your choices are reversable by-the-way----and any disallowed program can at anytime be allowed and vice versa !!

http://www.download.com/
OR
http://www.freewarefiles.com/

Happy startup and Good Luck To You
PS---just because your Kodak Easyshare isn't on your startup
you'll still be able to access it and you won't be loosing any photos at all---and the number of photos you have loaded in isn't the problem here-----photos are my business and I have over 37,000 of them on MY system right now as we speak !!!!

you need to delete some of those pictures, if you don't your computer is going to crash and you are going to regret.

If you want to save your pictures you can order a large flash drive or memory stick to save files which have deleted.
