What you should do is take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic straight away to have this problem checked now! Brakes are the most serious part of every vehicle in that these are your life at the end of the day. The problem you are talking about if at the front of the car is the pads seizing on the disc you will definitly know this as the smell will be ghastly, If on one side of the car you will notice the vehicle pulling to one side? The pads may need changing and you may find the piston indside the calliper which moves the pad forward has seized. You very rarely get this problem on brake shoes as the wheel cylinders very seldom sieze they usually leak brake fluid. Get your brakes checked now!

need more info on auto, but usually the coil springs don't make the brakes grab. Usually the brakes grab from calipers keeping the brake pads to close to the rotors becuse the calipers are sticking, or the brake shoes are riding to close to the drums. Do you get a hot smell from the use of your brakes or is there a gringing sound coming from them? If you have any of these symptoms you should have the vehicle brought into a shop and have them check for worn out pads and/or worn out brake shoes.

You have a repair in your future. Grabbing brakes are usually caused by pads/shoes worn to the point that rivets or metal is all that's left. You may luck out and have a rock stuck in a pad.
Get it looked at immediately.

the spring has nothing to do with your brakes, either your front pads need changing and your rotors turned, or your rear wheel cylinders are leaking on your brake shoes causing them to grab, you never said what kind of car you have. but it sounds like you need your brakes serviced.

your caliper is faulty. If the problem started soon after a brake job then a boot may be torrn or the mech. didn't put the pistons back into the caliper correctly
