It was an effort to reduce the number of alcohal related accidents. Hoping that people would be more mature (i.e. intelligent) in their decision making. I agree that it is wrong that you can get married at 18 but you can't drink. Personally, I say, put a hold on the drinking, marriage, and military service until the age of 21. While voting is an important task, it doesn't completely change the outcome of your future, because there are other voters involved for an overall election winner. I say that it is fine if someone wants to get drunk, get married & join the Army at 18, as long as a (hopefully levelheaded) parent signs off on it.
Before anyone slams me, I am all for military service and marriage, I just think that at 18 we are still really kids (with a few exceptions) who need the advice and support of our parents.

You can't drink legally, but you can drink. That being said, many states lowered the drinking age to 18 and 19 back in the 80's. This only led to more people dying on the roads because of alcohol related accidents. Discretion took over and the drinking age was raised back to 21.

All you mentioned take at least a little intelligence to accomplish.
It don't take a brain to drink, and the more immature (at any age)
the more likely the loss of intelligence you do have due misuse
of the spirits. It is hoped that by age 21 (rule of thumb) you'll have
enough maturity to properly enjoy/use mind influencing alcohol.

Well, that's just what the law is. Luckily for you, you live in a country where you can dispute the laws if you want to. Write your congressman. Or, just wait until you're 21 to drink. It's not that exciting, really.

i'm keen on beer or wine myself. attempt between the microbrews, they have a extra advantageous style than most of the super breweries. And undergo in strategies too that those fruity beverages no longer in easy terms value extra, yet have 2 to 4 cases as many energy as a prevalent drink. in case you like blended beverages - save it easy. My spouse loves vodka and cranberry juice and Amaretto sours. they are in all threat lighter in energy too than a Pina Colada or Mudslide. Congratulations and chuffed birthday. Drink responsibly.

I'm not american but I think it has somthing to do with probation I belive in the 1920's. The goverment need want you to die in a war and vote for them but drinking doesn't help them so why bother changing it as they would probly loose more votes then they gain. My country will let me have sex and get married but not purchase pornography(?)

i agree with you. if you can go to war for our country you should be able to pound a few brews. but who knows....if the goverment wanted to make a buttload more money they would lower it back to 18 again. although, most people who are under 21 are too immature to accept the responsiblities of drinking.
