you have to just let them to themselves... and don't get dragged down to their level...

At work I deal with somebody like that everyday. For the first 5 minutes of the work day I take the time to speak to he/him and after that I avoid them the rest of the day. I don't like to be around negative people so much they are tiring.

I try to ignore them but sometimes I blast and throw everything right into their face. It's not a good way of dealing with it, I know, but what can I do, that's just me...

Yes I do. I usually make a positive remark about the person who is the topic of the endless criticism - its always working.

I have someone like that at work. But she has a heavy step so when I hear her coming towards my office, I pick up the phone and start talking and she turns around and leaves.

Oh heavens yes.
There is this one Yahoo group, where the moderator constantly has something to "grind". A lot of us left the group because of her.

sure, a friend always does that - she isn't happy unless she can be miserable about something - Sometimes I try to challenge her remarks, but usually it's just easier to ignore her - I just shake my head and she'll sometimes get the message that she's annoying me

I deal with it everyday. I'm a manager of a small corporation and my employee's b*cth and moan every damn day. So I tell them to STFU.
