By waiving the monthly service fee they could dramatically increase their listener base and in turn charge more for advertising. I've been a subscriber to XM for well over a year now and I've noticed an increase in advertising on the non-music channels. I'm just wondering if they could or would waive the subscription fee altogether.

Sure they could, it would be like the newspapers their big money is in advertisements and not the sale of the paper to the general public. In the not to far away future you will probably get the paper free.
