I just don't get them, they rarely start and when they do they dribble along at a pace that will bring you a file by Christmas! I am using uTorrent but I just don't see what all the hype is about!

Right, here we go.

Setting up your torrent client and pushing go wont give you the best download speeds.

Downloading and getting the best from your downloads is quite difficult for a first timer.

All depending on how your computer is set up, what sort of adsl/cable line you have, how many seeders you are sharing from, whether you are working behind a router, whether you are working behind a firewall. These are all important factors for high speed downloads.

For a start. If you are behind a router then look at this site:

http://portforward.com/routers.htm

This will explain how you need to forward some ports before you can get direct access to the seeders. With a blocked port you will never gain full download speeds and will never get green smiley faces from your torrents.

Also, if you work behind a firewall such as Zonealarm, then you also need to forward the ports in your firewall. Otherwise your in the same boat as if your router was blocking access.

Not trying to scare you here mate, but please read up on torrent downloading before starting. There are plenty of how to's out there.

I have been downloading from torrents for years now, and have my client (azureus) tweaked for 200kb/s+ on some well seeded films. It takes time, but believe me, you will never go back to the likes of Limewire once you have learned.

Best of luck pal.

To me, they're just like limewire or kazaa, except for psp games, movies, and whole albums. I use BitComet and I've always had good results. And as long as you get one with good health, and you don't have slow internet, it should download at a regular pace. The websites i go to ar Torrent Spy and Iso Hunt.

I use BitTornado sometimes. It works fine without any problems.

But sometimes it depends on the number of seeds/peers. I am sure you know this. You may want to try it, nevertheless.
