Because our job of establishing a self-standing democratic government isn't yet complete.
The people there don't understand this form of government (well, at least the religious zealots trying to duke it out for control of the land). They're not in power any more, the government is in power, but they keep fighting for power... power they won't get.
So once they figure that out, and the Iraq military toughens up a bit (last time I read about that, they didn't have contracts and there were no punishments for abandoning the military at all... people were ditching in firefights and stuff), then we can withdraw some of our troops. We'll always need to maintain a military presence there, just like we did in Germany at the end of WW2, or Korea at the end of the Korean war (though Korea's a bad example since we didn't exactly win that one).

Because Bush/Cheney won't admit they were wrong. No weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) were found in Iraq. I feel that our troops should have pulled out after Saddam was found. I back our Troops but not the war. The Troops are tired and weary, they have lost hope. You can not win a war when all the people look the same and there is no trust there and possible outside help. All of the Militias, suicide bombers and etc. are nothing more than thugs. I heard today that in Afghanistan is now a lot worse. The schools that the USA has built are now in shambles from rockets. This is taxpayer's money thrown away. If these people will not stand up to those that want to control their Countries, I don't see how anyone can make them. Over three-thousand American lives gone and for what??

Why can't you join the military and show them how to do it? If you had gone, you may have saved the world.
