check the jumper settings on your hard drive. Most likely the jumper setting should be on master to boot the pc. If that doesn't work make sure your ide cables are connected firmly on the motherboard. Very common thing people over look.

It sounds like the drive you took out might have been set up as the 'Master'drive and the remaining drive is a 'Slave'. You probably need to switch the jumper on the back of the remaining drive to 'Master'. If you aren't sure how to do it, look at the back of the drive on the right hand side or center. There is a set of pins with one black or blue jumper connecting pins. They are usually listed as 'Master, Slave, Cable' in that order. If not sure, go to the hard drive manufacturer's website site and look there. They usually have diagrams for people who need alittle more help. Use a pair of tweezers or a small pair of needle nose pliers to gently grab the jumper and move it if need be. Don't use a lot of force or bend any pins.
Then check that the grey ribbon cable with black connector (that's a 40 pin connector) is connected at the end connector, not the middle to the hard drive. Then you should be good to go.
You might need to reinstall your operating system on that drive.

when you only have 1 drive you may have to pull the jumper to make it nutral or jump it to master if its on CS.
