Native Americans have nothing to do with Indians, calling a Native American person an American Indian is the incorrect term. Columbus thought he was in India and not America, and called the people here American Indians.

I am Cherokee & Choctaw (with a bit of English & Welsh thrown in).My "native"ancestors came from around Tennesee & Kentucky. Originally. I suppose they probably came over the Bering Land Bridge like everyone's American Ancestors did. The natives had their own wonderfull belief system. It is nothing like the India Indians. I do not call myself "native" American. I am an American & proud of it. American Indian is my ethnicity which actually has nothing to do with my citizenship. We were called Indians because Christopher Columbus, in his ignorance thought he had found the back way into India. The people he found were darker skinned than most Europeans & because they were in what he at first thought was India, he called them Indians.

What you are refering to is the land bridge theory. This theory states that Native people migrated from Asia to Alaska and then down into the U.S. by a land bridge. But please know that..
The land bridge theory is just a theory! There is little to no scientific evidence to back it up. In fact there is more scientific evidence that disproves the theory than there is in favor of it. Scientists, scholars, and common citizens just believe in the land bridge theory on blind faith. No one looks into the science of it anymore.
Why? Because they created the theory so they wouldn't have to feel bad about their history of stealing these lands. I mean if Natives came here just before the Europeans then they both had equal right to the land. Well, it's hooey. For more information on this please read "Red Earth White Lies" by Vine Deloria Jr.
And if you think people look alike please consider two things:
1. all places in the world were once made up of indigenous peoples
2. Native people did have boats and were in contact with people from other places, it is highly possible that some intermarrying occured

A native american is actually anyone who's grandfather lived here, then had your father or mother which in turn had you. Making you a native american. I don't agree with the so called politically correct terms like african american, is an example I am using because I have a lot of friends who I've heard refer to themselves as this. Then I correct them. politely, Most of us here are native americans. God doesn't see color. He see's your heart.

Native??
Where do you think that "native" anybody comes from.???
Why, do you think that "Red Indians" means that they are really Indians.??
If there was a connection,it would have been before any "belief system",could have been established.

Of course they're from India, that's why they're called Indians, and why they live on Indian reservations. You never heard of anyone living on a Chinese reservation have you?
