So, I live in America. Still, my question is when is okay for someone to go around destroying the public image of another country on the basis of humor?
I mean, if someone made a movie making fun of Muslim or African-American cultures there would be a lot of uproar, but how comes little has be said condemning “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” How come some countries or cultures are exempt from international ridicule and other are not?
Oh and by the way, Sacha Baron Cohen is British so freedom of speech isn’t a good excuse AJG.

Can anyone insult anybody WITHOUT crossing the line?! So, yes, if he insulted anybody, then he crossed that line.

Wow, I didn't even see the movie and I know the first two answers are wrong: 1. he insulted eastern european gypsies and 2. he's not american he's english. I think he crossed the line when he had the gypsies do these dense things and gave them $3 each (look how many million he made). He seems like a pretty self-centered guy to me.

Let me guess, you're American right? I think you must be the only country in the world that doesn't understand the meaning of the word SATIRE! What he was doing was exposing other peoples ignorance, Sacha Baren Cowan himself was actually Jewish. He wasn't making fun of other peoples cultures, he was making fun of the ignorant people who insult other people and their cultures.

It seems that the country he was ridiculing appreciates all the attention and tourism that the movie generated, but the man he copied has sued him.

I haven't seen the movie, but it seems like opportunism to me.

No, but you're crossing the line with inflammatory questions like this. I'm flagging for "hate speech"
