I have had two of the highest dollar anit-virus services on board my system at one time or another and both of them were a pain to work with !! On my last trip out with a paid service I had a downloaded Trojan that was detected and the service that I had actually put up a window that said that they couldn't do anything with the problem program !! I had to search it down and take personal action against this bug that gave me considerable grief and caused the loss of two extremely valuable files !! Less than a week after that incident ---- I had that same paid service --- go up on price to me and immediately begin to hound me for money !!! That was the taker !!
I have been with AVG Free ever since--- have not had a single problem with it--- and with the newest version (loaded IT early in the month of December) have even seen smoother operation of the service with quicker scans ---- fast and reliable Email scanning and faster update times----So, I sure that anyone paying out major money FOR one of these others is going to give you the "I've got the best and I think......." but--- they can just continue to pay--- I'm sticking with AVG and I'm satisfied with it totally !!!!!

Hello,

(ANS) I would class myself as a pretty experienced computer user having 12years + experience both in a professional role in IT and having had computing as a hobby for many years. In that time I have used almost all the major AV prackages available.

I can honestly say I removed Norton AV 2002 from my system because it slowed my machine right down, it was extremely resource hungry and the updates kept getting more expensive each year. In the end the straw that broke the camels back was when symantec wanted to charge me an extra £12 just because I wanted to pay by debit card & not by a credit card. And when the update subscription is only a few pounds short of an entirely new product someone's taking the micky I felt.

**Plus I had the devils own job removing Norton AV from my machine, (wont bore you with the sordid details). In the end I had to download a special removal tool from the sysmantec website before I could get rid of it. How user friendly is that?? nice hu!!.

Anyway, I moved across to AVG Free and I can tell you that AVG free is a MUCH MUCH Better product than Norton AV. AVG free is extremely well written & has a user friendly interface and free updates almost daily as you know.

AVG Free has saved my computer time & time & time again, its a VERY Good program I'd say it deserves 10 out of 10 its the best your ever going to get.

AVG is used by all the technical guys in all the problem forums on the web, it is the best free application. Make sure you download AVG Free Edition also AVG Anti-Spyware from here : http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=AVG%20Free&tag=srch You will not be disappointed. Another useful free tool is Ccleaner also from Download.com
If you need to know more technical anti-spyware or anti-virus just im me or email.
Also do not be put off by the fact its free, (although AVG anti-spyware is not for the full version) they tend to get their updates out far earlier than Norton, Macafee or any of the mainstream programmes Norton is the worst Security system ever!! Not only is it slow, its a system hog, (just check your windows task manager while its running!) Every P.C. I have had I have totally removed Norton, which is no mean feat I can tell you!
Lastly someone just said that Panda is the only on-line scanner?? Well the only on-line scanner to use is Kaspersky, it is far better than Panda, but do not buy or install the Kaspersky anti-virus or Firewall, it is rubbish, (worse than Norton!)

I hate AVG myself, but typically they're as good as Norton...

Though some of the ones you pay for, such as Kaspersky or NOD32, actually do an amazing job.

And I recommend AntiVir if you want free... Doesn't use a lot of resources, great protection and great options.

EDIT: Also, these aren't online anti-viruses... The only online anti-virus I know if is the Panda ActiveScan.

I agree with the 'bag. They work, they go from free to very cheap, and do what the expensive ones do. BUT! If you want speed, and a warranty, you need to shell out the dough. My home box runs AVG. At work I use Norton. The boss don't like to see me sitting there with my thumb in while I wait for AVG to do it's thing.

I doubt it.

There is an old saying you get what you pay for. How does AVG and Avast get paid? Norton and McAfee are paid when you buy the software and when you upgrade it each year. This gives them incentive to make a better product and to keep improving it. Where is the incentive for AVG? If they don’t have the incentive then they just aren’t going to be as good as products you pay for.

regrettably, there is little probability you will need XP 2008 bumped off by ability of only working a utility. do no longer setting up the parasite because of the fact it is going to turn your device into complete mess. XP antivirus now creates random filenames that is why a great number of antivirus courses miss it. The risk-free thank you to scrub out the device would be working a HiJackThis test. Then generate a log report and teach it to savvy computing device consumers who can decide the malicious records, procedures, entries, and so on. those will could be fixed manually. HiJackThis facilitates that - and is unfastened.

Of course that they will not be better but I'd say that AVG is a good one even in its free version.
