I say a 5,you are more scared than anything, you feel no pain because you are totally numb and very little pain afterward, nothing that Tylenol wouldn't kill.

If the dentist did the right dosage of pain killer into your jaw then you just hear a scraping grinding noise as your roots are being pulled out of the jawbone, which hurts psychologically but not physically. If he screwed up and under-dosed as mine (now my ex-dentist) did when I had a recent extraction then the number 10, as your body realizes that a nerve is being ripped apart, is nowhere near high enough to describe what each twist and yank feels like. It is even worse if the multiple roots splinter and he has to dig in and pull out each one in a gouge that he makes in the bone.

To put that pain in perspective when I have a root canal or deep scaling done I take no anesthetic to dull the pain so I am not a dental wimp.

considering I had ten pulled at once, not that bad for just one.

The big thing is afterward. You have to eat soft foods and you can't smoke if you are a smoker (I am not) you also cannot suck through a straw. Sucking might cause the blood clot to come out and you could get dry socket. Imagine a toothache but the nerve exposed to cold air. Very painful. But if you follow your dentist instructions, rinse it with a salt water solution you will be fine. The mouth is probably the fastest healing part of the body. It has to be, you have to eat to live.

I got my 4 wisdom teeth pulled, two at a time and it wasnt bad at all. It hurts about a 3 after the numbness comes off. But it was all good. But then again it all depends on your pain threshold and also how your tooth is, if its down in the gums etc.

To have a regular tooth pulled is no big deal and is only uncomfortable for a day or so. I had impacted wisdom teeth and it was quite painful for 3 days anyway. My husband just had a wisdom tooth pulled that was not impacted and it hurt for a couple of days, but a doable pain he said. Hope that helps.

I've only had 1 tooth pulled, but it wasn't so bad. Not great- about a 7, but no real pain. Just pressure of the dentist pulling. They numb you up before starting.

I had numbing medication. Didn't feel a thing other than tugging and pulling sensations...but no pain. The numbing shots were the worse pain I felt the whole time. Now...afterwards is another story. I was in pain for 5 days. :o)

It hurts beyond the 1-10 scale, after your painkillers and general anesthia wears off .

Normally it's a 4 but one time they had to put anesthesia 7 times because it kept on wearing off so it like a 6. My whole left side of my face was numb and I couldn't blink my eye. It was so funny and I couldn't talk well so everyone thought I had problems.
