Why is everyone so afraid of death and physical pain. these things are not even close to how bad some things are, yet when you joke about people getting hurt or dying, everyone in the room cringes, and you get dirty looks, and people get mad at you. I don't understand. I have ignored more pain than the average american has even thought about.

The ones that do hang out with the ones that do, so it is pretty difficult to get a good picture of what really is going on. Just look at what kind of answers are posted by negative questioners. There is a very big lesson to be learned right here.
Who reads negative articles in newspaper and magazines but the customers who like them. Who watches the blood and gore on television but those who are attracted to do so.

That's easy.

Death-people fear it because they fear the unknown. Although a lot of people have some very strongly health beliefs, the fact is, we don't really know what happens when we die. Do we just cease to exist? Is there a heaven/hell? Do we reincarnate? It's a mystery that every single one of us will find the answer to eventually.

Pain-well, that's obvious. Pain hurts. That's why people fear it.

Bully for you that you have ignored a lot of pain in your life. That doesn't make you unique. A lot of people have. But people do have different reactions and tolerances for pain. It's unfair of you to mock others for having a lower threshold for pain than others. You should just be grateful that you apparently do.

Why fear it, death and most probably pain will happen. I think sometime in your life you will encounter worse one way or the other. Are you not afraid of physical pain? I don't know your background, but I bet you wouldn't ignore having your finger nails pulled out tough guy.

When people cringe, you may have touched a nerve about something personal. Perhaps a joke about death offends someone because they just lost someone they loved. You can never be sure what someone's experiences are. Someone recently made a suicide joke to me & I probably cringed because someone I loved dearly shot himself in October. Death really isn't funny....everyone who dies leaves behind somebody whose life wont be the same without them.

I ignore pain too. I say to myself that getting through with your biggest fears will make you stronger, and it's true. At least for me. But death, there are many ppl out there that doesn't want to end their life cuz there are so many things to accomplish. But there are also a lot of ppl that want to.

I don't fear pain but I do fear death..death means I no longer live..I can no longer be happy with friends and family..I can no longer laugh at jokes, I can no longer cry tears of joy...I can no longer feel the hugs from my kids...I can no longer hear the words I love you from my husband...I can no longer smell the roses in my garden....I fear death because it will take me away from everything I love and there's absolutely nothing I can do to stop it....
