He likes to play craps, right? The Stratosphere has 100x odds on craps, players love that.
Monte Carlo does win out for location and having one of the great pools in LV, the pool area is supposed to be open by the first of March. Love their lazy river. The MC is within easy walking distance of NY NY, MGM, Tropicana and Excalibur where you can catch their monorail down to Mandalay Bay and Luxor. When it's running which it usually isn't there is a monorail between Monte Carlo and Bellagio, I don't know why they seem to have so much trouble keeping this one running.
Thanks "pinkey" I have no idea where some people get the idea the Stratosphere is old and run down. The Stratosphere opened in April of 1996 the Monte Carlo opened in June of the same year. the only reason the Strat is inexpensive is because most people don't like the North strip location. Which makes it all the better for us value/bargain hunters.

For only $20 more, I would choose the Monte Carlo. It has a more central strip location, so you will be able to visit other casinos. In my opinion, the Stratosphere is dumpy. It is in a not so great part of the Strip, leading into the downtown area. You can't really walk anywhere if you stay there. The view might be nice at Stratosphere, but you could always take a cab there during the day and have lunch or dinner there. The Top of the World restaurant is supposed to be first class dining, but it is rather expensive. Sorry to babble, but I think the Monte Carlo is your best bet!!

I agree with what I see here. The Stratosphere is way down the strip away from most of the action. The closest casino is the Sahara. The neighborhood is kind of scary at night there. Any money you save you will spend on transportation. If you must stay there, there is a monorail stop at the Sahara.
Monte Carlo is a good location close to New York and MGM Grand. You will have much more fun at that location.

Monte Carlo is more of a high rollers casino with less children running around.

Ive stayed at the strat and it is at the end of the strip away from everything, but it is very clean. I think the next hotel from the strat is the sahara...(i think), and they have a monorail, so if u did do the strat u could just take the monorail to where all the action is. just go to vegas.com

if you don't stay at the stratosphere, you have to go for the view. and the awesome rides they have at the top. they have added one since the last time i was there, but the one they had was just about the coolest ride i had been on.
