Judging from the threatening way Bush & so many absurd people in their use of the word in confronting opposing Americans, does one whether they even know how to define the real meaning of it., or even realize that "patriotism" has ethical connotations, & that the word, in itself, implies that the nation's moral standard or moral value and is connected to the pride iof its ethically & morally good achievements & culture to allow its members to have desire to preserve its morally and ethically good character or its culture, and to have all feel good to be identified with the rest of its members? Although patriotism may be closely associated with nationalism, nationalism only promotes patriotic attitudes as desirable and appropriate. Nationalist political movements/patriotic expression may be unethically & immorally negative. To be nationalistic, right or wrong, exhibits bad judgement.Patriotism means putting one's country above the self & be willing to die for it's moral/ethical values.
