Unlike the Sudanese civil war, this is not a religious persecution but an ethnic and political one - which in Africa is often the same thing. The people of Darfur have been left out of the government for years. The rebels of Darfur, the Sudanese Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality movement are fighting the Janjaweed. The JEM are purported to have ties with fundementalist Islamic groups - Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda. That is probably a little problematic for some forces that could otherwise go into the conflict. In the meantime innocents die while politicians posture. And that is coupled with sporadic and apathetic reporting. So very, very sad.

Because they are the poorest of the poor and very few are good hearted enough to really care.

I think only by seeing these things first hand (or even in the media, but the media is run by moguls who tell you what news is news and what you shall see and shan't) will you know, but how many actually donate to World Vision when that money can see a child to adulthood and maybe save an entire village by providing the cost for a well for the price of a cup of coffee a day.

You can't blame just government. We could all make a profound difference but just choose to be indifferent.

If we empowered the poorest, maybe they could stand up to these tyrants. But government definitely needs to intervene, then donations to reputable charities need to happen to help these people.

I'm not sure the world knows about janjaweed? I study the news daily and have only recently notice janjaweed in the news for the second time. I don't believe most know of their carnage and evilness that is projected upon the innocent.

If anyone knows more please enlighten us.

Welcome to Africa. Unfortunately the Sudan is not the only country with innocent people being tourtured for greed.

I cannot begin to guess why these sociopaths are free to kill. Why it takes George Cloony to get it reported on the news. I mean, we have wall to wall coverage on so called "legitamate" news programs about ANNA NICOLE SMITH!!!! Isn't that best left to the 4 billion tabloid news channels?

Because for politicians, it's easier to take on melting ice caps than to take on genocide. There's no opportunity for looking good when you take on genocide. At least not in Africa...
