Not now. The hatred Bush has created against the United States will take years to repair. The new terrorists the Iraq war has created will continue to plot against the USA for years to come, but getting out of a civil war in Iraq would be a good first step and save the lives of countless American troops.

It may not decrease terrorist attacks but it is the right thing to do. The U.S. should have learned by now that it is not a good idea to meddle in the affairs of another country. The people of each country need to concentrate on keeping the affairs of their individual country under control. The U.S. needs to be there for constructive dialogue but leave off with the direct and indirect support of regime change by supplying soldiers and weapons to other countries. The U.S. has been engaging directly and indirectly in many countries uprisings for decades and it is time to stop. Watch Noam Chomsky's "Distorted Morality". We can help by electing officials who are firm in their commitment to dismantle the war machine and who are not in the pockets of the defense contractors. We are not going to change the extremists by meeting violence with violence.

If the US did order the troops home Iraq would descend into full scale civil war that will see Sunni Nations Aiding the Sunni's, the Shia nations supporting the Shia's.
As a result the war would spill over into neighbouring countries as they will start a war at home.

No. But it will give the terrorists elements breathing room to plan and stage attacks within the US.
