I'd rather some people like us and everyone fear us but this is a two party system and that option doesn't appear to be on the menu.

Arguably since Bush more countries, er, their national leaders, hate us, or hate him, though for the most part it's the same people who've always hated us for being wealthier than they are just being more vocal about it.

But think about this - 9/11 happened because Al Qaeda kept doing stuff to us and we kept not doing anything back. They didn't think we'd invade Afghanistan and take out the Taliban that was supporting them because none of our past responses to terror indicated that we would.

If someone gets up and says "Iraq was a mistake but Afghanistan and rounding up the radicals and bringing them to Gitmo and handing them over to Eastern European allies for interrogation, we should actually do MORE of that" wouldn't you support him or her?

Until we get that, it seems like it's all or nothing. "All" isn't perfect but "nothing" got us 9/11.

You got hate and fear confused with each other. Fear don't necessarilly causes hatred. Nor does hatred causes fear. But here's the thing, you can cause fear by being forceful as well as hatred. The 9/11 truly didn't cause fear through out the country at all. It was the government that promoted a fearful tactics to controll the people. From what I understand, there were more people that I knew that wanted to do something about terrorist attack. since the government made it seems more complicated than it shouldn't need to be, fearful tactics plays really important part in such a way our government can do things behind out back. So really what truly causes hatred within American hearts towards most Arabs was more of what was done to American soil (it's like you burned my garage and now I'm gonaa make you pay and suffer for it). That's what really causes hatred.

Youre wrong on one point, which is that "nothing" got us 9/11.

Seriously, what kind of people have you ever met that murder 3000 people for no reason? Read the book "Messages to the World: The Statements of Osama Bin Laden", and he explains quite clearly why he believes we deserved 9-11.

For one, the US supports the corrupt and tyrannical Saudi Arabian regime, which Bin Laden despises because they allow no freedom at all and are only concerned with making money and keeping their power.

For another, the US unilaterally supports Israel, without ever holding them accountable for what they do to the Palestinians or Syrians.

He specifically says that the moment he got the idea for the Holy War against the US was when he was watching US-made Israeli planes bombing hotels and other civilian buildings in Syria and Lebanon.

There is ALWAYS a cause for every event. Nothing happens out of the blue.

You want to stop terrorism? Stop your government from being a terrorist itself. Violence does nothing but create more violence.

That being said, I do not support Bin Laden in any way, but I can at least do some research and see where hes coming from. I personally believe he should have taken Gandhi's path of non violence and passive resistance, but we dont think the same way.

I believe the same thing about the US. I believe that if we treat everyone with respect, theres no reason for anyone to hate us OR fear us.

Why do you find it necessary to assume other countries must hate or fear us? Maybe they might actually like us and respect us. What a novel thought. We actually had some countries like that before Dubya got a hold of them.

Hate and fear are both emotions that people need to strive to get rid of. I would rather nobody feel these emotions at all.
