Giraldo Rivera said 50 years. I doubt it will be that long. It is my belief that the American public will become increasingly irritated with the war and will urge its end soon. But it will not be the daily rising death toll because Americans have become desensitized. Nor will it be an arbitrary number (like 4000 or 5000) because those are only milestones. Not much was made of the 2000, 3000 or 9/11 death toll amounts.
What will happen is that it may take a large event (similar to the Camp Mess Hall bombing) that has large American casualities that will push the War back to the front pages of the newspapers. That is what history has told us. I am reminded when seven brave soliders from Brookpark, Ohio (a patriotic west side suburb of Cleveland) lost their lives. The anti-war sentiment ripped through the city because people started to feel the effects of the war personally. They were proud of their sacrifice, but a great deal of people wondered if it was worth it. Events like these turn people perceptions very quickly I'm afraid.
Oprah interviewed a soldier who thinks that the public has, indeed, become desanitized to the War. The link is included. Unfortunately, I must agree.
I pray for our soliders that are there. I hope that the public wakes up and instructs our politicians to bring them home before another catestrophic event occurs. But the public opinion patterns say otherwise.
God bless.

A good place to start on this question in south Korea. We have been occupying the demilitarized zone for around fifty years. We have a Base in Cuba from that conflict in the sixties. We are involved in Germany and Turkey. It is hard to say but Afghanistan is still going on. The wars we have keep costing us for a long time and the damage is done. I do not see a quick way out even if there is a cease fire. I am supporting the war now but before it all started I was all pissed off. It is going to take more time than I will be on this planet for the troops to leave.

2122 A.D.
The Iraq War has already ended. We are currently policing a sectarian conflict. We will have already been out of the country before that Civil War ends in 2122.
Oh, the Iraqi Civil War will end when Iran uses it's nuke to demoralize the Sunnis.

2008 before the elections. the Republicans are still mad that Iraq cost them in 2006. They won't let it happen again in 2008. There is too much money involved.

Our nation will forever be there. The 'battles' will come under control in about 5 years, but only if they recieve the help they so despertly need.
