The time and effort to buid something bigger would have cost the community more. Also the wood to build the gate was in the jungle were there was (in case you forgot) Trexs and the monkey himself. I would say the gate was big enough just to get out of the jungle!

The answer is tied to a question of work vs. gain. If the natives had not built the wall and gate and had simply relied on the volcanic chasm as a defensive moat, Kong would have had to do a lot less work to enter the village. Natural forces (for the most part) tend to follow a path of least resistance, and as Kong never had anything to gain by leaping the chasm and scaling the wall, he simply left them alone, coming out on cue to take his "offering". In a sense the villagers had him trained: go to village when drums beat. receive toy play with toy use toy for food. Only when Kong had something to gain did he attack the wall The gate itself was built simply for the purpose of not insulting their "god". After all, even though it was not convenient for Kong to enter the village, he knew there was a gate there just his size, and he knew that it was made for him - he just never found it convenient to do so. For the villagers part this is called hedging your bets. They knew a smaller gate would make it overtly apparent to Kong that they were trying to keep him out and thereby draw his wrath, where a big gate might placate him as long as it was not convenient to use the gate. The same principal is used when renting out timeshares - if you have 50 apts. and 1000 renters, you know that it is possible they could all need to use the apts. on the same weekend, but you're betting they won't, because it's just not convenient odds that they all take the same weekend off when there are 51 other weekends in the same year. In other words, it's not convenient for Kong to scale the wall for curiousity because it will take too much work - the villagers are betting that he's a lazy couch potato. :)

i think the question should be Why on Earth would you want to put a gate in?? Surely the ideal thing would be to put a numer of obsticles, traps and defences against not only the giant ape, but the Dinosaurs and other Monsters there.
Also the other thing is, seeing how much land the natives had, how could they support the population of that size? And why have a community there anyway? Surley the settlers would have been destroyed ages before such a civil project would have been completed.

Hmm....good question. Maybe the hole or doorway or tunnel was naturally made (erosion or earthquake) and the natives simply put up a gate to cover up this naturally made hole or doorway or tunnel. I can't imagine the natives could dig this massive tunnel thru the side of a cliff, so maybe it was already there. They probably made the best of a bad situation and put something up to keep Kong and the rest of the creatures on the other side.
Mostly though I think it was for dramatic effect in a movie...

they would have had to build a very high gate to keep a monkey from climbing out,but then if they had kept it in we would not have seen much of a film, the film was good even the first time round.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/QdtQr
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

Hmmm......
1) its a film and fiction
2) maybe coz they didnt want to keep it out or in.....i think they worshiped it so it had the right to do anything so if you built it smaller then it it might of been offended and kill you all (from the locals point of view)
