Let's turn this around. Why should it be illegal?

Such hatred on here! In reality, Roe v. Wade gave a ruling about first trimester abortions only. So let's stop using that case to blame those who have abortions later.
Secondly, there is a conflict between when a baby is a living thing and when it is just a fetus. Without a brain or nerve cells, I can't believe a zygote is a viable human being.
Thirdly, those who support the anti-abortionists are usually in the conservative groups, which also support the war, the death penalty, and, quite often, the idea of sacrificing a child for one God or another. Someone needs to get real. Many of these people are no more pro-life than Jeffrey Dahmer.
Personally, I don't believe I could ever have one, but having not been put into such an extenuating circumstance, my conjecture means nothing. If men start having children, abortion will be more legal than milk, and very few people will be complaining about it.

I know it is hard to find reasons for abortion, I was completely against it until I made friends with a girl who had one. She had hers because if she would have gone through with having it there was a large chance her and the baby would have died. I think that's a good reason. She has very strong feelings on why abortion is legal and she could turn any pro-life into a pro-choice, I wish I could tell it as good as she does. Like you said, rape cases are understood. I'm sure you can understand if the mother or child's life is in danger, like my friend. But also, (I'm not saying I totally agree with this) some women believe it or not really cannot afford birth control, are afraid to ask, etc. I know you're thinking 'Well, they shouldn't be having sex then.' NEWSFLASH. This is not a perfect world, people are going to have sex without protection. So, in these cases abortion can save a child from a life of neglection and poverty, and save the mother as well. Would you rather increase the spread of poverty and neglected children? Or terminate something that does not yet even have feelings. I know that I am pro-choice. I'm not saying let's go around throwing abortion parties, but I'm saying that every woman should be given the choice. I guess, in the end, it's just two different opinions, however, I want you to really have an open mind.

Abortion is legal because not everyone can agree on when life begins. Outlawing abortion will not stop it either.
Also without insurance some birth control pills are $54 a month. Granted that is not much money, but for some people it is.
Until you yourself are in the position of deciding you can't really judge them.

It could very easily be the way the Supreme Court decision was reported.
The long standing no recording no pictures rule leaves the public perception of a Court decision to the press. As snowballs go down hill so does the News.
The Court later admitted they never intended to give the right of choice to the woman but to the doctors. So as most decisions it was pro business not pro rights.

Abortion is legal because the alternative, abortion illegal, is far worse. The solution to the abortion problem in this country is not a legislative ban. The solution is free accessible birth control and education, education, education.
You'll find that the people who cry out the loudest against abortion are also against birth control and sex education.

Take care of the side of the street you have some control over. If all males not wanting a child to result from sex used a condom, they'd be no need for abortion. Practice what you preach and encourage your peers to do the same.
Otherwise, MYOB.

It has been established that it is not a viable human being. Hence not murder. True it would be much more preferable for people to use birth control. Responsible people do. However, do you really want those who can't even figure out that birth control is a good idea to then become parents? Is a world full of even more unwanted children better? On top of all that most anti-choice family planning centers not only don't offer abortions services and conceling, they don't offer birth control either. How much sense does that make?

Laziness and stupidity of some aside; because its none of the government's business. For those having issue with it, it is a moral issue. One's morals are typically outlined by their religious beliefs. The stance that a church takes on anything should have no bearing on political policies. Idealy anyway. I, for one, am against most breeding. I am a 29 year old female with no kids and I believe that just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I am against fertility drugs. I think that abortion should be an option of welfare, and be followed up with mandatory birth control as long as welfare is rendered. You can't trust people to be responsible. People can't always trust themselves to be responsible, otherwise there wouldn't be an AIDS epidemic.

You're absolutely right, abortion is not a form of birth control. People shouldn't be lazy to use birth control, but abortion should be legal though, U.S wouldn't known for it's name if women can't even choose her fertility.
