94 Olds 88 I just got the power steering pump replaced, I did not have this problem prior. It has stalled while driving while in motion, while stopped at a red light..basically its not very descriminating on when it does this..but it always starts right back up and is good to go, generally after two times of stalling it doesn't do it anymore. I am taking it back to the mechanic who put the ps pump on it tomorrow but would like to compare your ideas with whatever he decides to tell me.

Autozone will not do a test on it as the comp needs to be at least a 96 they told me today.

"Check Engine" light is a warning that something is not working properly. A diagnostic test has to be done. A readout will give the mechanic a code so he can trouble shoot the problem. It could be unrelated to anything the mechanic did.
You have an older car. Things go wrong.

I agree with Guido, but it may be an oxygen sensor that's causing the problem. This doesn't have anything to do with the power steering pump, but an air intake line may have crimped or damaged during the repair.

Take it to auto zone, and they can put it on a device that will tell you whats wrong. but it sounds like to me is you might have a vacuum or a miss in the engine
