Until Conservatives were recently elected to a minority government in Canada, the prior Liberal Government thumbed its nose at the States. It's only been since the Conservatives have come in that Canada has started to come on board with the Americans in any substantial way.
But they may change again soon. The Liberals may be back in government after a non-confidence motion dissolves Parliament, and an election is called.

For one thing Canada does not now and never has supported the pointless war in Iraq. Canadian troops have been in Afghanistan since the start of the war on terror supporting their American friends. Many Canadian troops have been killed in this fighting.
Canada is involved in many trade disputes with the United States concerning NAFTA and has won several court decisions favouring the Canadians. When Bush visited Canada most Canadians gave him the one finger salute. One member of Parliament even suggested Bush was a "moron".
No, I don't think Canada lets itself be pushed around by the U.S.A.

Pushed around? Right after the Revolutionary War, the Americans tried to liberate Canada. It was the first war the USA ever lost, and they haven't tried it since.

Thats an American perception. Canada is not pushed around by the USA - if it were, they would be in Iraq right now.
Canada is a quieter, gentler nation. It is a peacekeeping nation, and one that chooses to spend its tax money inside the country...on the people of the nation...rather than a military. For that reason, you will not see them engaged in battles with other countries, as they do not have the ability to defend itself against other military forces. The Americans see that as cowardice...but actually, it is realism. They know their place in the world...and they don't need to be a superpower.

Just like the US, Canada has its own demons to fight. Canada and the US both realize how very important each is to the other. They are like fraternal twins who have much in common but go their own ways until time to support each other. I really don't see where you are coming from. These two countries have had each others' backs throughout their histories.

They do? How?
It would help to answer if I knew the context of the question.
