how do you politely tell them to stop because you don't want to listen anymore?

I don't think you can. I think it would be wonderful if we could just turn round and say, "please could you shut up now because you are boring me".

Yeah, long winded people tend to become unintelligible for me. I guess I have a short attention span. I never tell them though, I think the look on my face says it all, and they eventually always say: "Anyway, to make a long story short..." Or ask me if they are boring me.

yah but it's worse if they tell you a short story that ends up being VERY long

yeah my mom does it to me all the time. im pretty blunt with her, i just tell her to get to the point.
