Millions, just like in Viet Nam. But don't expect the liberal left to care. Their hemp wearing, dope smoking, cowardly asses aren't on the line now are they.

Exit stage left has never been a good strategy, but since they have no strategy this is all their feeble minds can come up with.

While I always suspect 'logic by analogy', this analogy seems appropriate to me.

To all of you who think the US should stay in Iraq until the job is done, say you come home and some 300 pound escaped convict is brutally raping your wife. Do you shoot him to get him to stop, or do you just let him keep going until the job is done?

For how many decades are we going to hear, "If we leave now, we'll be condemning millions to die"? Well, it's been 4 years. It takes the US Army 70 days to turn a drooling moron into a killing machine. What is going on in Iraq? Are those Iraqis THAT stupid it takes YEARS what it takes Americans MONTHS to master? How many more Americans get to die while they figure out which type of HMMWV they want to drive?

For all of you who are SO concerned about the poor Iraqi people, NAME FIVE. Five you know personally over there, 5 who have said to you even ONCE, "Thanks for being in Iraq we really appreciate the chance you're giving us and were going to pick this up real soon and let you go on home"?

I just dont think
A. They care anything about democracy, they thought thats what they had with Hussein and;
B. They wouldnt know what to do with real Democracy if they DID have it.

When you sing "Them Old Cut and Run Blues", you just sound tired anymore. Everybody can see the way things are going in Iraq and we can also see it isn't working. We are not freeing anyone, we are forcing confused, frightened kids, who see US soldiers kicking in their doors and raping their sisters, and they become "Guerrillas", they don't become "Terrorists". They become "resistance fighters" in their minds. To think they are doing anything other than repelling an invading and occupying force is to assume incorrectly and dangerously.

Yup - its an interesting question. If the US was to pack
up and leave right now, how many would die immediately
... vs. how many are going to die over the course of
the next few years as no stable political environment
is reached.

If the military were to disappear right now, the bloodshed
would be enormous - but it would also be over pretty
quickly.

You can even imagine them reaching a stable
government much like Vietnam did after we left -
and maybe even becoming a trading partner.

The point is, as long as we're in there in our
current form, we're perpetuating the problem.
I'm not saying that we can't be part of the
solution - but what we're currently doing isn't
working.

And adding 20000 soldiers won't fix it either.

Maybe adding 100000 might - but nobody's
going to vote for that.

And, since the Iraqi government shows no signs of "standing up", how many will die in 6-10 years when we leave? Like Vietnam, you can't force them to stand up-we are now propping them up, but sooner or later they will have to stand up.

And it's not just "lib Dems" at all. Previously hawkish Republicans like John Warner have a lot of questions.

about 3000 less than if they had stayed.

If we don't withdraw, Iraq will never learn how to take care of itself. We cannot babysit that Country forever. We are accomplishing NOTHING except getting our Soldiers killed and our resources could be better utilized. Say to find Osama Bin laden and fight Al-Qaida for example. Or does that even matter to you any more?

Exit stage left is a funny way to describe a phased withdrawal.

Iraqis are already dying--tens of thousands. I'd prefer that we have a plan in place to minimize the number of Americans being put in a position to kill them, and the number of Americans who are dying as well.

Your name is "Nuke Iran", but you're worried about how many will die if the States pulls out of Iraq?

Way less than would die if America nukes Iran, or stays in Iraq.

How many Iraqis are willing to step up to the plate and defend THEIR OWN NATION! The Republic of Iraq is not the responsibility of the Citizens of the United States of America. Can't you idiots get that through your head.

Thousands, unless they stand up and fight. We were right to go in, but is it really the duty of American soldiers to fight and die for those who won't fight for themselves?
