When you look for something, and you know you're looking in the right area, and you've looked very carefully for it. You then go to ask a store employee if they have said item in stock( i.e. a new DVD), and then they take you back where you just were previously searching for the item, and they look for it in the same place you did, and tell you they're out...maybe this is just me, but this is very annoying to me, and an insult. I know some of them are trying to be helpful, but it kind of gets to me. Does anybody else feel this way when they go to a store like a Best Buy?

I should have added that you make it clear to the employee that you looked in that area for whatever it is you're looking for. Yeah, the poster that said it gets to them when they don't look in the back...that is annoying.

They have no way of knowing you carefully checked the area. I have overlooked a couple of times myself. But I do know exactly what you are talking about. That has happened to me a couple of times and what gets my panties in a bunch is when they don't go to the back and check and just assume they are all out because it is not on the shelf. Once I let them know I am interested in them going to the back they very pissed off get on the right track and go to the back and look then I leave the store in a little better mood. still mad though 'cause what I was looking for is not there at that particular store. When luck is on my side though, it turns out it was some stocked in the back.

UUUUMMMMM THE POSTER THAT SAID THAT THERE WASN'T A "IN THE BACK" THEN WHAT IS THE STOCK ROOM FOR? Don't answer I'll do it for you. It's for stocking the goods that come in.

I was speaking in general not just at Best Buy.

Actually i would get annoyed at my own luck rather than at the store employee... IIf it's a Best Buy thing then a lot of people would want to buy the thing and so the probability of it not being there is always there... what you should do is ask the store employee when is the item going to be available or try to search it in other stores....

It happens to me often in book shops. I suspect that it has to do with there being so many items, that one is a bit ovewhelmed by the selection and goes into a sort of "shopper's trance." There have been studies that counted eye-blink rates in shops with a large selection. The eye-blink rate slows dramatically in most people, which is similar to a trance-like state. This might accout for our missing the items we're looking for.

Well, it makes sense that they would take you to where it could be found, why get annoyed? They don't know you already looked there and there have been times when they have found it even though I looked there.

There is no "in the back" most stores use all of thier space for retail, there is no wharehouse in the back, just a break room and a loading dock

Well if they paid the people better they might be a little more knowledgeable and a little more helpful.
