Cult film from 1966. But the Good, played by Clint Eastward was no goody, He de frauded the US government of bounty money, assisted the escape of convicted murderers on numerous occasions, murdered umpteen baddies, impersonated a soldier, and in the end stole US army payrole gold. Without declaring it.
So why is the naughty character so loved by the public? and why was the film such a big hit in its day? does the film Glorify Crime?

He was extremely good at what he did, and there was a lot of ironic humour in it. Irony played a part in making it popular. It was an enormous improvement on what cowboy films had previously offered. It does not actually glorify crime, it simply tells a story. Why would anybody care about the people he killed, they were really nasty b*stards. It was a new idea in films, nobody knew what was going to happen, or how it would turn out. Easy rider played the same trick, but not as well. The gold he stole would have been used for military purposes, it would have bought death, so was it worse for him to have it or the army? The main thing for those of us who have watched it is that it is entertaining. Lots of bad people die and a crafty extremely able man outwits and outguns the worst that the wild west can offer. You can't help but like his style.

Same reason everyone loves Zorro. When the character can outsmart corrupt politcians and murder the baddies, people want to stand up and and cheer. It was true in l966 and it's still true today. Everone loves it when the downtrodden stand up alone and go for it.

I think the film doesn't glorify crime, I think it is just a film through the eyes of the criminal.
I also think that In comparisson to Tuco and Angel Eyes, Blondie is good...
I love that film, and it's soundtrack...
