I'm due in 4 weeks and we need a car that will accomodate 2 toddler carseats and an infant seat. Does anyone know if the Jeep Grand Cherokee will fit these 3?

I know friends who have fit three child seats across a Chevy Cavalier (a Britax Marathon--pretty wide seat--a Cosco Scenera and a Graco SnugRide), so it can be done in smaller backseats, but it is mostly about finding the right combination of carseats to "puzzle" together. Some are much wider than others, and some sit up higher on bases than others. All of that makes a difference.

A good website for reference is: www.carseatdata.org (look for the common carseat measurements link on the homepage). You can also do searches for "rear hip room" of various models of vehicles and add up the carseat measurements you're looking at to see if it will work.

That does not mean everything, though. The measurements of a Britax Marathon+Cosco Scenera+Graco SnugRide is actually wider than the rear hip room of a Chevy Cavalier, but because of how high up on a base the Marathon sits, and because it was forward-facing and the Scenera rear-facing, they puzzled well together and worked fine.

Babies R Us lets you try seats in your vehicle. You just leave your license at the front desk while you take a floor model out to your car.

There are also some posters at www.car-seat.org that own Cherokees and could probably give you some insight. HTH!

Congratulations on your family expansion!

If you are looking at buying a new vehicle for your family check out current safety statistics at http://www.informedforlife.org/demos/FCKeditor/UserFiles/File/2007SCORE.pdf. The Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have an excellent safety rating and there are many safer vehicles for your family that may better accommodate 3 seats (and less expensive too).

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with two carseats and it was a fine fit but we have made the choice to harness our 4 year old as long as possible so we have a large seat for him plus our 2 year old's rear facing car seat - adding a 3rd seat to the Jeep would not have worked for us so in early 2006 when we had mechanical problems we decided to sell the Jeep and get a mini van. We purchased a new Honda Odyssey and then 10 months later we were in a major side impact accident - the Jeep likely would not have protected our family as well as the minivan did. We now have a top safety rated Kia Sedona and really like it.

Have lots of fun! I worked in a chevrolet Buick Pontiac dealership for 5 years and agree with the first answer. What you realistically NEED to do is load up all the kids and carseats and go to your local dealership and just start "trying on" different models for size. I have seen MANY parents come in and purchase a vehicle thinking that their is enough room for their second, or third only to see them in a month or two later trying to trade in the vehicle! with SUV's it is tough. I drive a Dodge durango, but have never had more than two carseats in at a time. It will hold 3 carseats in the middle row, as well as 2 more passengers in the third row. Check out the Chevy Equinox also. It only has two rows of seats, but the rear seats are adjustable front to rear to give your little ones more leg room. They are a bit wider than the Jeeps also. If you want to talk further on ANY model of car or just want some imput... please email me... I would love to help you out as much as possible!

i have a jeep cherokee country and three carseats are tight. i only have 2 kids, but have had to babysit a neighbors child who was in a carseat at the time. grand cherokees are a little roomier, but i'd go with renting a model you are looking at to buy and try it out with 3 carseats. congrats and good luck!

I had a ninety 8 Grand Cherokee, it had to have the move case viscous diff replaced, the rear axle, each and everything appropriate to the brake equipment grow to be more often than not replaced and diverse small products, all in the first 60K. I nowcontinual a 4Runner, 0.33 because the Jeep. No upkeep of any variety, basically oil and fluid variations. No extraordinary noises ever.

Go to the dealer and ask, they should know. Or borrow seats from some friends and try.

Also some car rental places rent seats with their cars, see if one has the model Jeep you are looking at and ask if you can come and see if three seats will fit. They might charge you a small rental fee but it would be worth it.
