I have 3 firebellied toads, and I hold them to take them out when I have to clean out their cage. They do have a little toxicity to their skin, but if you wash your hands after handling, you should be fine. Just dont rub your eyes before you wash your hands. But you probably shouldn't take them out just to play with them for long periods of time, more for their benefit.

I've never had a problem handling them (petstore ones of course) and I wasn't always able to wash my hands right after since I was usually in the middle of half a dozen projects when I had to get them out for someone (I did put sanitizer on them though). You should wash your hands after handling any animal, particularly reptiles and such.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to know that it was the diet that makes frogs toxic. That's how the vast majority of toxic frogs make themselves that way-- through eating toxic things that don't bother them.

lizardgirl is wise in her ways! Diet is what makes them poisonous but after handling any reptile wash up allot of pet stores are offering the new hand sanitizer on their counter just to be careful. the likely hood of salmonella is present in all reptiles and anything they have come in contact with. use common sense and error on the side of caution. my daughter used to have 3 f-bellies but they are great escape artist now she has 1.

The ones you buy in the pet store aren't poisonous only wild ones are. It's what they eat that makes them poisonous.

Meh. One time I made one really mad and I had a cut on my hand. It burnt pretty bad for twenty minutes. I'm fine. You won't die.
