since artificial insemination is expensive, i've decided to try on my own. i have a donor in mind , but i'm not sure how to go about it.

what do you mean "you have a donor in mind"? Like you've talked to a guy friend of yours? If you want a baby and you just want it to be the two of you then go to a sperm bank. That way there will be no weirdness because you wont know exactly who the father is. If your donor knew they were the father then they'd feel obligated to help out, wouldn't they? It's up to you. But don't you still have hope that one day you and an amazing guy will have a baby together? Why not wait so that your little one will grow up with a mommy and a daddy?

Go to the bank and pay for the sperm.
They check it for STDs, slow swimmers and screen for genetic disorders.
Can you ask your donor to so the same? I don't think so.
Do you want to end up with HPV and a child with serious and expensive health issues and still be on your own?
That's the risk you are taking.
It's one thing to face the great unknowns with a partner together but all these things on your own are a lot to handle.

I guess have him masturbate into a cup, and then use a funnel to get the specimen into your vagina. DO NOT ATTEMPT to get it too far in. You can hurt your cervix if you use a turkey baster or anything too long. All you have to do is get it into the vaginal opening, then lay back and let gravity pull it up to your cervix.
I think it is best to use the sperm withing 30 minutes of it being collected. Also, you need to be sure you are ovulating to make it worth your donor's time and effort. Use ovualtion test sticks or the ClearBlue fertility monitor to be sure of your ovulation time to make sure you are attempting this at the best possible time.

I actually know someone who got PG from the turkey baster method. She and her Life partner wanted to concieve but didnt have the money to get AI. They picked a guy friend who agreed. He did his business into the bigger end of a turkey baster and the put the bulb back on and inserted into her and two weeks later she was pregnant. Just make sure to sure an ovualtion predictor kit. I would never have believed it if I didnt know the person who did it! Good Luck!!!!

Just do it if you have: MONEY, TIME, LOVE, SUPPORT, PATIENCE, HOPE, FAITH. OH and remember if that donor is someone close not a anonym guess what he could come for his child later in life. Or you can either sleep with who you think is good looking and get far from him so he'll never no, LOL.
