When you feel empty and lonely inside, or in pain, what is a socially acceptable form of self-comfort? I used to suck my thumb, but I'm kind of old for that now, need something equally effective but socially acceptable.

I imagine my guardian angels are hugging me, then I don't feel so alone. Sometimes I just go hang out with my mom for a little while, she always reminds me there is a least one person in this world who loves me unconditionally.

Personally I either read my favourite book, listen to my favourite song or watch my favourite film. When I can't do that I imagine one of my friends hugging me, cos she's the best hugger in the world :-)

If you don't have anything like that try and lose yourself for a few moments in your own thoughts. I think of when me and some of my mates chilled out on top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio, enjoying the sun, the view and our holidays. When I lose myself I usually find I've been messing with my hair in some way as its an escape and suppose it keeps me focused in a very strange way :-)

Times might by hard sometimes but '...I'm just thankful to be facing the day, cos days don't get you down when your gone'

Enjoy yourself and take care.

I am a chocolate eater. When that, being my best friend at the time, is unavailable, any food will serf ice. Food is ALWAYS there, unconditionally and will NEVER talk bad to you...it does have a sence of guilt that rides closely behind but is easily over come.

I listen to happy music or read a sad story. The music makes me feel upbeat while the story helps me to realize how fortunate I am. If you don't feel like doing either, a good cry never hurt anyone.

CHOCOLATE, or sweets generally. If your not into eating sweet things then how about having lots and lots of time playing computer games untill the early hours of the next day.
