Oliver! has been my favourite film for over 20yrs. I remember when I first saw it when I was 3 and I loved it. It is one of those films that has so many levels. I expect most of you just see it as a nice jolly musical, with great songs that everyone knows and a good story with a nice cheesy happy ending. It fits the genre formula perfectly. But I have seen it from a completely different perspective for years; I confess I am obsessed with Oliver Twist - the story not the character, can't stand him personally - it is all his fault that Nancy died!! I hold grudges. When you look closely the musical subtley includes most of the dark undertones from Dickens' novel - there is prostitution "do you know who you are? and what you are?" child abuse, although it does go down the paedofile route at the certificate is a U!! Gang crime - very significant at the moment. Oh I could go on and on!!!
I just love it!!!

Anything Star Wars. I grew up on it.
Several funny movies: Dumb n Dumber, Ace Ventura, Waiting, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Breakfast Club, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Bad Santa, Something About Marry, Half Baked, Coming to America, Undercover Brother, Weekend at Bernies....I think you get the point.
You are right about Kill Bill too.

The Motorcycle Diaries.
Its a fascinating insight into the early life of Che Guevara, tracking the events which may have led to him becoming such an iconic revolutionary figure.

my favourite movie at the moment and proberbly will stay this way for many years to come is "flags of our fathers". reason is for the first time in movie history a movie has finaly captured the true emotions of a soldier at war. i was a navy corpsman until six months ago and seeing ryan philipie's acting as a corpsman was so acurate it was unnerving and terrifing for me to watch, he said everything with his eyes and that is were you can see a soldiers true soul. how he did it i don't know but he did us all proud. exceptional movie, heartbreaking at times and also funny as the way war can be at times. eastwood to me caught what most others directors have failed in the past to do and that is show the confusion of what is going on around you in time of combat. the most powerful of all is the loss of friends.something we know too much about.
