I doubt that anyone will be able to help you with such a vague description, but you may be in luck.

My advice would be to listen carefully to a portion of the lyrics when the song is played again and then Google them. If you are certain that you can remember the lyrics correctly, then you may want to put them in quotation marks when googling for extra accuracy.

It may have been a song of one of Paul Simon's African CD. He had an African group record with him and it was awesome. One of the songs on there was "diamonds on the soles of her shoes" and " You can call me Al." It won a grammy.
Go on line and check out all his CD's. Someone stole mine so I can't remember all the names of the songs or the cd anymore.

Additional info: You can log on the internet and type www.answers.com/topic/ladysmith-black-mambazo. It will give you the information about the whole group, also some downloads. The black man with the deep voice is Joseph Shabalala. Paul Simon and Joseph got into trouble for breaking some of the established rules in South Africa. Nevertheless, the album won an emmy.

Edited info: The song was not actually sung by Paul Simon. It was sung by a group of African singers who were very popular that were on the Graceland album. They are called Ladysmith Black Mambazo from Africa. They have made appearances in the USA and are really good. However, Graceland Album (which had nothing to do with Elvis) was recorded in 1986, so may not be the one you are looking for. The song "Homeless" went webaba silale maweni and repeated this chorus over and over.

There is also a song recorded by The Police that has a sound like the one you are talking about. I can hear it in my head so I know what you mean.

Sorry, this is the best I can do.

I think it's a song by Lionel Richie. It was actually an 80's song.
