Its been cold outside, so of course now the air inside my house is very dry and there is a lot of static electricity. My husband and I are going to get a humidifier. My baby has really dry flaking skin right now, any recommendations for anything to treat it, good moisturizing creams etc.

First, that's pretty normal for a newborn to have flaky skin, especially right at the creases...

BUT - I swear by calendula oil. I buy Weleda Calendula Oil, they also have ointment, I believe. It smells so sweet too! I use calendula to clear up almost any baby skin ailment - or my OWN skin ailments! Very healing.

Being this cold outside you are gonna see some dry skin. I would suggest getting a humidfier, probably one of the cool steam ones and putting in the baby's room. My little girl at that age starting having flakey skin, i was told that happens to every baby, wether its winter or not. But i always put the creamy baby oil on my daughter's skin right after she got out of the bath. It worked wonders! lol Its best to not dry them off completely and put the creamy baby oil on and let it soak up all the moisture from the water.

Is the flaky skin on the top of your baby's head? If yes, this is called cradle crap you need to put baby oil on her head and then lightly scrub off the dead skin.

As for dry skin. During the winter months the skin dries up quite a bit. My daughter was the same way. I still put on her (she is two now) I use an oatmeal lotion. It works wonderful. It keeps her from having alligator skin.

Baby oil gel is awesome!!Also try Aveeno baby lotions,I use both and alternate days.My son had very dry skin but he also has dairy and soy allergies,if you are breast feeding also keep an eye on that but it is most likely the dry air.

My 2 month old twins also suffer from extremely dry skin. Their pedi recommended Baby Aquaphor and it has worked exceptionally.

Eucerin and Cetaphil lotions work the best and are the most common recommended by pediatricians. You can get them both at most drugstores. Cetaphil is a light lotion. Eucerin is much thicker and best applied at night to "soak" while she sleeps. I still use it on my hands at night to keep them soft!

if its just dry skin then try johnsons baby oil or similar, not any perfumed, or added products in other words natural as you can, if it is not 'just dry' it might be eczema, in wich case check with your nurse/ doctor
