I'm running a dual-boot system vista/linux, but after I installed Ubuntu my networkcard is not detected. I'm a linux newbie and eager to learn, but it sucks if I can't search for info while in linux-mode.

Any hints?

Going back to linux to post more info.

It's a broadcom netlink gigabit ethernet card.

0000:04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation: Unknown device 1693 (rev 02)

It does not appear in network settings.

I have an Acer Aspire 5684 if its any help.

Thanks for the fast answerers <- is that correct English? (No points given for that last one. :p )

I have had issues with the 57xx series of chipsets in both Windows and Linux. They keep revising the chips and giving them new PCI ID's, so that even a driver a couple months old won't work on brand new computers. The driver doesn't know it belongs to that chipset. You can try forcing Ubuntu to load the kernel module by adding the line bnx2 to /etc/modules. put it in it's own line. Then reboot. If that doesn't work then you better roll up your sleeves and goto kernel.org and download the latest kernel (maybe to a USB drive while in Windows). This great guide will help you with that.

Make sure you have the Ubuntu installation CD in when it has you install some packages.

Ubuntu is terrible at finding drivers, I finally kicked ubuntu off and loaded up the latest version of mandriva, it found everything including net card and sound, video drivers etc..

Could you post the details on your network card? Without that, locating drivers would be pretty difficult or impossible.
