The U.K. is recognized as a democracy, albeit a "Parliamentary democracy". The UK model is often referred to as the Westminster model.

Just because there is a Queen doesn't mean it is not a democracy.

Of course we live in a democracy. It's not perfect by any means but the very fact that you can ask the question says it all.
If anyone doesn't think that the UK is a democracy, they should try living in Iraq under a dictator like Saddam Hussein then they would change their mind.

It's supposed to be and it could be if the electorate , the voters, got personally involved rather than sleeping or complaining!
How many people tell their MP, City Councillor etc what they think ?
A democracy is as good as the people who vote in their representatives. If your MP doesn't listen, write to the papers, put your views in a blog, phone the local radio station. They might think that you are mad but if enough people did this we might get a real democratic government.
I try to be optimistic but its difficult when 80% of the electorate are apathetic!

The UK is a democracy, and the fact that saddo's are allowed to say whatever they like about our country and prime minister on this site, without feat or arrest, imprisonment or the damn good beating they undoubtedly deserve, just goes to prove it.

NO. As all politicos who want to govern us have to swear allegiance to an unelected head of state ie. the monarchy, that makes the U.K. a monarchist state
