pitching last year. and pitching is going to kill them this year too. they have very bad starting rotation for this year and they are very old. 37, 39, 41, you get the point, and a few of them are coming off injuries. they'll make the playoffs with there offense but they wont go any farther

I think the Mets biggest issue last year was the fact that they had key injuries at the very end of the season. Pedro going down killed the starting rotaion and Cliff Floyd with the heel injury hampered there offense.
Keep in mind as well, over the past few years the Cardinals are the only team the Mets have major problems beating.
If the Mets can get a good rotation and a good bulpen going they will win the World Series. Offense will not be a problem for the Mets.

Well their team couldn't stay together. Pedro Martinez would get hurt and then come back for a start and then he would be out again. Plus you have to think about this. pedro didn't even pitch in the playoffs. They would have been in the world series if he was healthy. I believe they will go all the way if all of their starters are 100% come playoff time Because they showed that they have the talent and so does their payroll. Lastly their are 3 possible MVP on the team.(David Wright, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran)

The Mets were plagued with injuries last year. Imagine having Pedro breaking down and then El Duque on the day before the playoffs. I don't agree with somebody saying that the Mets "count their eggs before they hatched". The Mets were just tyring hard to remain positive. They weren't in an easy position having two of their star starters out for the playoffs. Who in their right mind would go into the playoffs saying "Oh, we cant' do this, we're doomed"? Just thank God that Maine and Perez stepped up to the games and carried the Mets as far as they did. In my opinion, they exceeded all expectations. As for the Cards being one of the worst team in MLB and still managed to beat the Mets, I don't know, anything can happen in the playoffs as we all know. As for this year, I admit that I'm a wee bit, okay maybe not wee bit, worried about the starting rotation. It just gnaws on me. Fine, maybe big name starters aren't the only key to the WS and the Mets have certainly 'compensated' it by trying to make the starting rotation and the bullpen deeper by acquiring various pitchers (Park and Carvajal being the latest additions) and getting their two top prospects ready.I personally see the bullpen as in a pretty much tip top shape. I'm very excited to see Duaner Sanchez play again. As for the infield and outfield, I pretty much see no problem except maybe for Moises Alou, Jose Valentin and Shawn Green. I say Alou and Valentin because of their age and I just don't know if Valentin could match his own performance for this year. And Shawn Green needs to step up his game. I'm damn sure that Delgado, Beltran, Wright, Reyes and LoDuca (I applaud him for playing injured and still producing the highest average in the team last season) will stay hot if not better. Last thing, I don't know if still having Anna Benson would've helped the team or not. That woman needs to learn how to keep her mouth shut. In my opinion, she's partially to blame for the Kris Benson trade.

Yes despite the fact I'm not a Mets fan I was upset when they traded Benson. But the real stupid move they made was when they traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano(where is he now?).Kazmir is going to go and win 20 game someday and Zambrano will be watching it from his house. The Mets will make it to the World Series this year,no NL team can compete with them but I'm not sure if they can win it all.The AL has better teams and just look at the AL Central, only the Royals are weak.

They counted their eggs before they hatched. They thought they were in the world series before they played the Cardinals and that was a mistake because any team can beat you no matter how good you are

INJURIES- if pedro or el duque would have stayed healthy the mets would have swept the cardinals i mean if the METS forced a game seavon with their number 3 starter being their best it shows how good they really ARE

Injuries and Inexperience. Pedro getting hurt and the rest of their pitching staff falling apart throughout the playoffs didn't help either.

The only thing that held the mets back last year was their injured rotation. Everything else(lineup, defense, baserunning, bullpen) is there for them to go all the way.
