He came before Christ, I'm no expert, but I'd say 2500 years ago. 500 years before Christ, I guess.

OK: first of all, he wasn't a prophet. He was the first person that we know of to believe that God is the one true God. He is considered the father of Judaism along with his son Isaac, but Muslims also trace their religious history back to Abraham through his other, less favored son, Ishmael. He lived quite a long time before Christ, though the exact years aren't known. Plus you have to deal with the fact, that although the writers of the Old Testament were definitely inspired and helped by God to write the books of the Old Testament, they did have a pattern of embellishing the truth. So we really don't know if he actually lived to be in his 500s, or whatever that age is. Hope that this helps!

you could't have confidence Bishop Usher's time line -- he's the seventeenth century fool who's in charge for the "6,000 3 hundred and sixty 5 days historical earth"-fantasy that the fundies like to cite. cutting-element biblical scholars, working with anthropologists and archaeologists usually area Abraham around 1700 BCE. this is predicated on the interior info related to Abraham in the cycle of memories regarding him. you're able to realize that those that attempt to area Abraham in the era of 2000 - 2500 BCE are working with an time table -- they might *love* to lower back-date Abraham to pointed out geologic disturbances in the subject of the lifeless Sea, with a view to attempt to *extremely* area him in the place of the fictional, whether infamous, cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Scientifically, it in basic terms can no longer legitimately be accomplished.
