It currently runs at around 45.5 kbps. I know it's unlikely, but could it be fast enough to watch online videos and download music??

dial up is not ment for watching video, you could download a few songs here or there but I bet you get frustrated with it. You have to options, stallite see hughes direc pc for this ( I belive there through dish network ) on a bad note thses are usually really expensive. Last time I took a look at it it was either $600 down or $50 a month extra untill you pay it off.

Or search your local yellow pages and find internet providers and start calling ever one of them. Alot of places arround where I live have wifi high speed, and while its not as good as cable/dsl and they might require you to put up an outside antenia its far better than dial up. Thats why I went this route.

Good luck watching streaming video or music. It will be choppy and will not keepup with the play rate.

Here are some options.

Since you are in a rural area and may not have DSL or Cable access.

Try DirectTV for Internet access. there are also other providers for internet service via satallite.

I know DirectTV give better access speeds then dialup.

Good luck.

Satellite is an option. There's high latency, so it isn't very good for online gaming, but you'll be able to download videos and music more quickly.

I think Dish and DirecTv both offer internet service.

If dial up is the only option you have, then make sure you keep you cookies and temp files cleared. Also you may want to contact your provider and see if they offer what is called a content acclerator. This will improve your speed.
