Until you can get some medical care & find out what's going on in your back, you can try to relieve the pressure on your tailbone. For instance, when you wash dishes if you have a high stool sit on it instead of being on your feet so long. You can also purchase a donut shaped pillow in a medical supply store. ( they don't cost a lot) . When you sit your tail bone will not come in contact with the pillow, thus taking pressure of the spine. It's sounds like you may have a herniated disc & you'll need to see a Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon to determine this. If you have a Primary care Physician they can make a referall. Also try to use cold compresses, alternating with a heating pad when you are laying down. Do your best to eat healthy & try to do whatever kind of physical exercise you can. Every little bit helps! I've been in your shoes with the weight & had 2 herniated discs in my lumbar, sacral area(just at the tail bone) I had surgery on my spine in 1991. You may be able to remedy your problem with physical therapy & medication, but I know your Dr will suggest that you loose weight because of the stress being put on your spine. Please see a Dr as soon as possible. If you have some type of insurance perhaps they can have a nutritionist work with you on your diet. Good luck to you & don't give up hope!

possibly getting an MRI of your lower back would give you more specifics with bones and discs. yes being overweight does make your back work more, but it shouldn't really be causing what you describe. see a doc for an MRI to find out what is going on in the inside of your back. i hope it gets better, and i hate washing dishes myself, lol. just doing that in a sink that is too low will also make your back hurt. take care.

hi, yes I had that problem with been overweight. The poor back takes a lot of pressure. I had sciatica problems, the pain went right across bottom of back and down one leg. I went to physio and they told me to lose weight which I did. The problem is gone. I tried the atkins diet and it suited me . I soon lost my weight. Good luck.

You can ignore this as long as you want but until you improve your posture you are going to hurt. Weight is only a small part of it. Like you mom is always saying, "straighten up".
