... but you aren't sure if it's true or false, would you email the info (or in my case, an online photo) to the news media?

I really don't know what to do. In my case, it's a photo of someone that has already made headlines last year, but I'm not sure if it's him cos people do look alike, so I don't want to be blamed for anything, or get involved at all.

Nah...dirty $$..I to would come back to me and to be honest, its not my life. Its theirs.

First of all if it is not true, their lawyers will sue you for slander and defamation of character. Better watch what you say, if it is true then you can sell it or publish it whatever but I guess that it would be the news media's job at that point to research. And it would depend on what it was.
