O.K, so im a senior in Highschool and im born in december.. therefore I am 17, however everyone is now turning 18 ! My friend/teammates 18th birthday is at this nightclub and you need an 18 ID to get in. Myself along with all of the other seniors were born in 1989 and were thinking of takign a red pen and making the 9 an 8, do you think it will work? and don't say for us to just get fake ID's because its tonight and well thats not going to happen.. kthnks.

I own a nightclub and find this question interesting if not some of the answers even MORE interesting.
If you use a red pen to mark on the ID you will most likely get caught. You do have a slim chance that a moron will work the door and not notice, but highly unlikely. If you do get caught you also run the risk of them keeping or destroying your ID. If the club uses ID scanners, no matter what you do to the ID they will find out.
You can try and sneak in, but that is also unlikely to happen. Many clubs use armbands and other markings to identify people that went through the ID process, anyone caught without one is ejected from the club or will be asked for their ID.
To "The Wizard" who aswered that it wasn't breaking the law to allow someone in the club under 21, I wonder how old he is. I can say I'm not versed in the laws of all states, HOWEVER I can assure you that it DOES matter what your age is and it is a LAW. For example, I live in WV so the law is that you cannot enter the club if your under 18, and you can't drink till your 21. If the Liquor Comission comes for an inspection and your caught in the bar under the age of 17 you risk being arrested, as well as, the club owners and whoever let you in the club. If your caught drinking under 21 you would also risk arrest and penalties to the club. BECAUSE OF THIS, and Im sure there are many similar laws in other states, I do not think ANY club would say... oh, your here to see your friend and your under 18, COME ON IN.
And as others have commented about, if this was really your friend, why would he have his birthday party at a club where not all of his friends could go?? Sounds more like he will be having his friends at the club and the semi-friends that aren't old enough and probably wouldn't be invited anyway are trying to come because they think it will be COOL because it's at a bar.
GROW UP, trust me when I say it's not such a big deal to go to a bar. You will have plenty of time for this in the future. I can assure you there is no reason to hurry just to get into a bar.
Why don't you get creative and try something better, why don't you and your friends that can't get into the club throw him or her a suprise party of your own. That way you could include all his friends, and then if the 18 and over wanted to go to a bar to celebrate later they could without anyone being left out of the celebration.
Be creative. Do something worth doing instead of putting all this time and effort into simply altering an ID.

Why doesn't the group celebrate some place where everyone can legally go?
Changing your ID is unlikely to work if it's put under any amount of scrutiny. The best bet is to try to slip in with a group of others (but that doesn't work if it's a narrow doorway and they allow in only one at a time) or see if there are back/side exits that you might be able to slip into as someone else is leaving.
Be careful though, it's not worth getting into trouble over, even if it is a drag that you can't do some of the things your friends can due to your age.
Have fun...be safe!

Like someone else said, why is this party at a place where some of the people can't get in because they're not 18 yet? Doesn't sound very smart to me.
Marking it with a pen is not going to work, plus it might not even be legal to do that to your ID/license, especially for the purpose of getting in someplace like a nightclub.

What doesn't make sence here is that the drinking age is 21, so why does it matter if you're 17 or 18. Just explain to the person checking id's you're jsut there for your friends birthday party. If they let you in, no one is breaking a law, its just a club policy. If you alter a ID or in anyway use a fake ID you could really mess your life up. Its not worth it.

Are you stupid?
A pen will never look real to them. They are trained to look for that sort of stupid stuff only a kid would try.
The only thing I can think of. Is show up in the middle of a huge group and while they are checking id's try to slip inside. Or wear something sexy and grown up looking...not the sluttiest thing you can find...that is also a big sign. Just try to look sophisticated.
Oh and make sure you drive your own car, in case it doesn't work...that way you don't ruin everyone else's night.
If this doesn't work...just wait another year...it won't kill you, I promise. We all did it and somehow we managed to survive.

Wait till you are legal. Grow up.
You really don't need the grief of getting nailed with a false ID.
