I have little black bugs that look like fruit flies in my apartment. They seem to be attracted to the computer screen and the dogs water bowl. I don't have any groceries in cabinets anymore-keep EVERYTHING in the fridge. How do I get rid of these pests?

Try to bug your house, Meaning use a bomb like those kinds gets rid of mice, rats, roaches.

Normally insects are in the home for something sweet, I have never had the problem you have. Or you can try turning on a light behind you... maybe that will bring them towards the other light in your home.

As for the dogs water. Talk to your vet for something that is safe, There could be something you could put in the water.

Attracting them to a trap and killing them is great...i would reccomended this, but the idea is to eradicate them as well. Fruit flies breed in places such as drains so treatment of the breeding site is recommended as well.
In the house hold kitchen there is normally a build up of food stuff in the sink drain... if u are able i would take the S bend pipe off and clear it of any food and clean with hot water. I would then pour a solution of hot water and a drain cleaning product down the sink daily. U should start to see an improvement within a week or so.
Chemical treatments for fruit flies are only so effective as it relies on the flie landing on ur walls and it is not ideal to be spraying ur walls with pesticide. If u find they are landing specifically in a certain place , window sill or above the oven, go to ur hardware and find a product that is suitable for fly control. There are things like sticky strips, and also fly pots that have no chemical in them.
I hope this helps

One trick is to take an old plastic water bottle, cut it so there's about 3" or so left of the bottle bottom. Add some vinegar (white is good) and a drop of dish soap. Place the "trap" around where you see the flies and they're drawn to it. Replace the mixture every couple days. You can also add a paper funnel so the bugs get trapped better, but usually they get in the mix anyway.

The only way I have found to get rid of them is to pour boiling water down my drains. After doing it 2 or 3 times they disappeared.

Basically you need to clean like crazy and get the areas were they breed clean. Drains are typically a culprit.

I listed some good sources below.

Dont forget to also get rid of any bottles or cans that you have around and try to clean out your garbage can and closet. they are attracted to sweet stuff and they will eventually go away if you are vigilant in cleaning. good luck
