There's no reason for the creation of earth. Earth was created when big bang occured. All the gases gathered and the earth was created. But at First the earth was just big ballon of hot gases. But after some time Earth started to cool down and the gases became hard and the Earth was created.

Genesis, the first book of the Bible, opens with the Hebrew word "bereshit", which means "in the beginning". The title "Genesis" was given to the "Septuagint(Greek) translation of the book, because of it's concern with the origin of the World (Gn 1:1;2,4) of the human race, and in particular, of the Hebrew people.

Carl Sagan was bent on finding out a theory and how, when, and why the Earth was created. He, became a Christian in the end.

There is no ultimate purpose. On a long enough timeline, nothing is generally relevant. Asking such a question is seeking a general purpose to the existance of Earth. One does not exist.
